Did we mention that there are also plenty of tropical plants, flowers and trees?

    2) El Morro Fort

Built on a hill and surrounded by water, El Morro Fort provides visitors with a stunning view of Old San Juan and its surrounding areas. There are also plenty of historical exhibits and interesting facts about Puerto Rico to keep you engaged during your visit. If you’re lucky, there may even be historical reenactments or cultural performances going on during your visit—making it worth every penny. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors over 62 years old, $4 for students between 12-17 years old, free admission under 12 years old, and it’s free admission on Tuesdays after 2:00 pm.

    3) El Yunque Rainforest

The El Yunque Rainforest is one of Puerto Rico’s most popular attractions. There are plenty of hiking trails and waterfalls, as well as an interesting history about how it became a National Forest and then a Biosphere Reserve. If you have some extra time on your hands. It’s a good idea to check out El Yunque Rainforest because it’s unlike anything else you’ll find elsewhere in Puerto Rico or anywhere else in North America. It’s beautiful, serene and absolutely worth visiting if you have time. While there, don’t forget to stop by La Coca Falls—it might be tricky to get there, but it will be well worth it! A scenic drive through highlands forest before hitting an overlook with spectacular views. Continue down very steep (dangerous) roads with switchbacks that can barely fit one car at a time until reaching La Coca Falls viewing area (the last place they allow cars). Watch as thousands of gallons per minute cascade over walls made entirely of red-hued rock and feed into rain pools below them.

    4) Bacardi Rum Factory

For those of you that are into trying some local libations, a trip to one of Bacardi’s distilleries can be both informative and fun. The tour is free and lasts about 30 minutes, but make sure you call ahead. Because they’re only open on certain days during particular times. Here you can also check Spirit Airline check in. After touring their facility and getting a few samples, make sure you go shopping in Old San Juan’s Mercado de Artesanias. It has tons of cool souvenirs from all over Puerto Rico. If you still have time, wander around El Morro Fort for spectacular views of Old San Juan’s cobblestone streets and crystal-clear water. As with any city or town visit, don’t forget to check out their main cathedral!

    5) Flamenco Show at La Casa de la Tia Maria

More than a show, it’s an experience. It is one of those quintessential Puerto Rican experiences where you can connect with both history and local culture. The venue is beautiful and historic; you will feel transported to another place and time. You may even want to participate! Dress up in traditional Puerto Rican attire (locals often dress up) and bring some friends so you can all dance together under the lights at La Casa de la Tia Maria. Trust us: it’s worth it.
